# Rhinvoice

> Rhinvoice is a free, open-source invoicing program for small businesses in Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Germany and Austria. It writes quotes, invoices, cancellation invoices and payment reminders with the VAT rules, legal notices, payment codes and e-invoice formats of each of these four countries. It is self-hosted with Docker, licensed under the GNU AGPL v3, and made by webberz, a software company in Balgach in the Swiss Rhine Valley.

## What Rhinvoice does

- **Documents:** quotes, invoices and cancellation invoices with a live paper preview; numbers assigned without gaps when a document is issued; issued documents cannot be changed (GoBD, Swiss OR 958f, Austrian BAO), corrections only by cancellation.
- **VAT per country:** dated rates for CH, LI, DE and AT; the tax treatment (domestic, reverse charge, intra-Community supply of goods, export, small business, exempt) follows from the countries of company and customer, with the legally required notice on the invoice; goods and services are treated separately.
- **Payment codes:** Swiss QR-bill (QR or creditor reference) for Switzerland and Liechtenstein; EPC QR code (GiroCode) for euro invoices.
- **E-invoices:** ZUGFeRD / Factur-X (EN 16931) embedded in every PDF (PDF/A-3b); XRechnung 3.0 for German public authorities; validated with the KoSIT validator and Mustang.
- **Payments and reminders:** partial payments, overdue invoices, three reminder levels with fees.
- **Recurring invoices:** monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or yearly, as draft, issued, or issued and sent.
- **E-mail:** sending documents through the company's own mail server (SMTP).
- **Import:** customers and articles from CSV and Excel.
- **Backups:** encrypted, deduplicated backups with restic to S3, SFTP, a folder, Dropbox or Google Drive.
- **Security:** login with optional two-factor authentication; data stays on the user's own server.

## What Rhinvoice is not

- Not a hosted service or SaaS: everyone runs it on their own server or computer. A hosted version is only conceivable if the community asks for it and sponsors carry the running costs.
- Not an accounting program: no bookkeeping, no ledger, no VAT returns, no payroll.
- Not tax advice: rates and rules are checked against official sources (ESTV, Liechtenstein tax administration, German and Austrian ministries of finance) and provided without warranty.
- Not for countries other than CH, LI, DE and AT as the issuing company's country yet; new countries can be added as country profiles (see the guide below).
- Not a web shop or point-of-sale system.
